… Donates Efudix, Sunscreen Lotions to Albinism Cluster Members
The General Manager, Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs, Mr. Oluwadamilare Ogundairo, has urged People with Disabilities to enrol on the Lagos State Health Insurance Scheme in order to benefit from the affordable healthcare initiative put in place by the State Government for all residents.
He made the call recently at a meeting held with the Head of the Albinism cluster group, Madam Josephine Omolola, in the Agency’s office in Alausa, Ikeja, to discuss health challenges faced by Persons With Albinism and ways to address them.
Dairo said Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration has continued to initiate beneficial policies and programmes in the health sector to ensure that all residents, regardless of disability, status or gender are able to access affordable healthcare services, stressing the need for all cluster leaders in the PWD’s community to educate their members on benefits of the Lagos State Health Insurance Scheme, tagged Ilera-Eko.
In his words: “The Ilera-Eko scheme covers the treatment of eye care, family planning services, child welfare services, hospital admission, treatment, pharmaceutical, chronic disease, clinical chemistry, diagnostic investigations, dental care, cancer treatments in early stages (1-2) and child care among others”.
The General Manager later handed over Efudix Cream and Sunscreen Lotions for the treatment of skin conditions, such as growths of the skin (keratoses and other simple skin cancers), to be distributed among the Albinism cluster members.
In her remarks, Madam Omolola expressed her appreciation to the State Government for its constant support and donation, adding that the Efudix and Sunscreen Lotion will benefit members as it helps to destroy cancerous and pre-cancerous cells on the skin.
She said: “Persons With Albinism are faced with myriad health problems due to their skin conditions. It has become so disheartening to see many wither away due to skin problems. However, the underlining issue revolves around religion and traditional beliefs, which prevent some sufferers from seeking medical intervention where and when needed”.
Government officials present at the meeting include Dr. Tolu Ajomale, Head of Special Projects, Lagos State Ministry of Health; Mrs. Omolade Sonubi, Assistant Director Admin & HR LASODA; Mr. Akintunde Oguntoye, Director, Monitoring and Evaluation, LASODA, among others.
