In a powerful step towards fostering economic inclusion and empowerment, the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) has registered 100 businesses owned by Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and presented them with free Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) certificates. This landmark initiative, unveiled during a two-day empowerment training for disability clusters, is part of a broader strategy to create a sustainable and inclusive business environment for PWDs in Lagos State.
The training, held at the STO Resource Centre in Alausa, featured the theme “Promoting Inclusive Business: Enhancing Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities in Lagos.” It was a vibrant gathering of entrepreneurs, disability advocates, and government officials, all united by a shared vision to elevate the economic status of PWDs through entrepreneurship and skill acquisition.
Elevating Standards and Shattering Stereotypes
Speaking at the event, LASODA’s General Manager, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, emphasized the program’s focus on empowering PWDs with the tools they need to thrive in the competitive business landscape. Represented by Mrs. Omolade Sonubi, Director of Administration and Human Resources, she highlighted how the initiative aims to break stereotypes often associated with PWDs, replacing them with stories of innovation, resilience, and economic success.
“Our goal is to empower PWDs, eliminate the culture of begging, and encourage ownership of businesses that are not only sustainable but impactful,” Oyetunde-Lawal stated. “By registering these businesses and providing free CAC certificates, we are enhancing their credibility, promoting financial inclusion, and positioning them for greater economic opportunities.”
Empowering Entrepreneurs Across Diverse Sectors
The initiative targets entrepreneurs across various sectors, including soap and perfume production, fashion design, and packaging. In addition to the distribution of CAC certificates, participants received comprehensive training in entrepreneurship, branding, taxation, record-keeping, and business development. These sessions were designed to equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate the complexities of the business world.
One of the highlights of the event was the recognition of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu‘s administration for its unwavering commitment to inclusive policies.
