Kebbi Governor Appoints 50 Entertainers, 15 Persons with Disabilities as Special Assistants in Bold Step Toward Inclusivity

Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State – In a historic move aimed at promoting inclusivity and diversity within his administration, the Governor of Kebbi State, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has appointed 50 Hausa singers, comedians, and 15 persons with disabilities (PWDs) as Special Assistants. This announcement was made in a press statement issued by Ahmed Idris, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, on Friday.

The appointments, which encompass a broad spectrum of society, reflect Governor Idris’s commitment to bringing people from all walks of life into his government. The decision to include entertainers and persons with disabilities in key advisory roles is seen as a bold step in ensuring that no one is left behind in the state’s development agenda.

The official presentation of the appointment letters took place at the party office in Birnin Kebbi, with the Kebbi State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abubakar Kana-Zuru, in attendance. Speaking at the event, Kana-Zuru emphasized the significance of the governor’s decision to appoint such a diverse group of individuals to serve as Special Assistants.

A Governor for the People

Describing Governor Idris as a “man of the people,” Alhaji Kana-Zuru highlighted the governor’s unwavering dedication to giving everyone in Kebbi State a sense of belonging. He praised the governor’s leadership, noting that his approach to governance has been marked by inclusivity, outreach, and a desire to positively impact every segment of society.

“Today, the governor has shown his liberality and vision by offering appointments to individuals from all walks of life. This is not just a political gesture; it is a testament to his deep belief in bringing all sectors of society together,” Kana-Zuru said. “Governor Idris is truly a leader admired by all, and he is determined to touch the lives of the people of Kebbi in every possible way.”

He further urged the appointees to remain committed to their roles, emphasizing the importance of working diligently to help the governor fulfill his promise of delivering the dividends of democracy to the people. “The trust placed in you is immense. You must do everything possible to justify the confidence the governor has shown in you,” he added.

A Vision for Transformation

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed-BK, praised Governor Idris for his leadership and transformative policies, which have begun to reshape Kebbi State for the better. Ahmed-BK called the governor a “reformer” whose vision has already led to significant progress in human capital development and the improvement of infrastructure.

“The decision to include such diverse individuals in his administration reflects Governor Idris’s desire to bring all kinds of people together, embracing diversity in leadership and ensuring that every citizen has a stake in the future of Kebbi State,” Ahmed-BK said. “This inclusivity is what makes this administration stand out. It is a government that listens to everyone, no matter their background.”

He further commended the governor for embarking on several key projects that have had a direct, positive impact on the lives of Kebbi’s residents. Among these achievements are the completion of the Multi-Billion Naira Ultra-Modern State Secretariat, the expansion of Birnin Kebbi city roads to a triple-lane design with solar-powered street lights, and the construction of new classroom blocks and health facilities across the state.

Prioritizing Development and Empowerment

Alhaji Ahmed-BK also highlighted the governor’s commitment to supporting agriculture and rural development. He praised the administration’s distribution of free fertilizers to farmers, the provision of solar-powered water pumps to boost dry season farming, and the supply of essential farming implements. These efforts, he said, have not only increased food production but have also empowered farmers and enhanced the livelihoods of rural communities.

Governor Idris’s commitment to empowering women and youth in the state has also been a focal point of his administration. The provision of various youth and women empowerment initiatives has offered new opportunities for entrepreneurship and economic growth across Kebbi, further strengthening the state’s economy.

“We are building a future where everyone, regardless of their background or condition, has the opportunity to succeed,” Ahmed-BK said. “This is what Governor Idris’s administration is all about – creating an environment where all can thrive.”

A Historic Appointment

The appointment of 50 Hausa singers, comedians, and 15 persons with disabilities is seen as a historic moment for Kebbi State. It is a clear indication of Governor Idris’s commitment to representing every segment of society and ensuring that the voices of marginalized groups are heard and valued in the halls of power. Persons with disabilities, in particular, have long struggled for recognition and inclusion, and these new appointments signal a shift toward greater opportunities and empowerment for all citizens.

By bringing entertainers into the fold of his administration, Governor Idris also acknowledges the cultural importance of these individuals in shaping the social fabric of Kebbi State. Music and comedy have long been vital parts of the state’s rich cultural heritage, and the inclusion of these performers in key positions reflects the governor’s understanding of the importance of culture in governance.

A Path Forward

As the appointees begin their work in supporting Governor Idris’s administration, there is a palpable sense of excitement and hope within the state. For the persons with disabilities, in particular, this is a moment to shine and prove that they can contribute meaningfully to society, given the right opportunities. Likewise, the inclusion of entertainers in government positions underscores the state’s desire to promote cultural representation in all aspects of governance.

The governor’s bold decision to create a government that reflects the diversity of the people it serves is a testament to his leadership and vision for the future of Kebbi State. With continued focus on development, inclusivity, and empowerment, the state is poised to emerge as a model for other regions in Nigeria, showing that progress is not only about infrastructure but also about embracing the talents and contributions of every citizen.

As the appointees take up their new roles, they carry with them the hopes and expectations of a state that is eager for progress, unity, and a brighter future for all its residents.
