Justice for Aisha Aminu: AWWDI Calls On Yahaya Bello, Remi Tinubu To Intervene

Women With Disabilities under the auspices of Advocacy for Women With Disabilities (AWWDI), has called for justice for one of their own Aisha Aminu who was killed by her boyfriend in KOGI State.

Yakubu Bilikisu, Acting National Cordinator, AWWDI, speaking during a press conference in Abuja for Call for Justice for Aisha Aminu, said: “Today, we have gathered here to address the tragic and deeply disturbing murder of Aisha Aminu, a young woman with disabilities from Okene local government of Kogi state”.

She said that they are at the conference to express their collective shock and sorrow over this horrific act and to emphasize the urgent need for justice on behalf of Aisha and her grieving family.Aisha was a cherished member of the Advocacy for Women with Disabilities Initiatives (AWWDI) self-help group.

She said that Aisha was a vibrant and promising young woman, with three beautiful children, and a bright future ahead of her.

“Her loss has left an immense void in the lives of her loved ones. The senseless nature of her death is profoundly troubling, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that those responsible are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law”.

The group implored anyone who possesses relevant information regarding Aisha’s murder to come forward and assist the authorities in their investigation.

“Your cooperation will be invaluable in our collective pursuit of justice. Furthermore, we call upon His Excellency Yahaya Bello, the executive Governor of Kogi State, to take decisive action in addressing the underlying systemic factors that contribute to the increased vulnerability of women with disabilities.In conclusion, we stand united in our unwavering demand for justice for Aisha and her grieving family.

“Let us not rest until those responsible for this reprehensible act are apprehended and brought to justice. Together, we must forge a society that safeguards the rights, dignity, and security of women with disabilities”.

The group also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to mainstream Persons With Disabilities in all policies of government especially women with disabilities and ensure that they play part in the formulation of the policies so that they should be safeguard from harmful practices.

They also call on the wife of Governor of KOGI State to come to the rescue of Aisha’s children and she should know that this incident happened in her constituency.

They informed that they will intensify the community mobilization and sensitization of women with disabilities and other members of the society on the rights of women with disabilities. In order to curb recurrence of such incident.

“People should know that women with disabilities have right to say No, irrespective of their disability, they have right to their body.

They also called on the wife of the president, Remi Tinubu to come to their aid to support the group in the push for justice from the law enforcement agencies.

“Justice for Aisha Aminu, it is Aisha today, it can be another woman with disability if nothing is done on this”

“This tragic incident underscores the urgent need for improved protections for women with disabilities in our communities. Women with disabilities often face heightened vulnerability to violence and abuse, and it is incumbent upon all of us to take immediate action to address this systemic issue.

AWWDI is fully committed to working collaboratively with key stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, government officials, and partner organizations, to ensure a comprehensive and thorough investigation into Aisha’s murder. We will leave no stone unturned in our pursuit of justice.

AWWDI will be advocating tirelessly for stronger safeguards, heightened awareness, and more robust support mechanisms to protect the rights and well-being of women with disabilities.
