The Jigawa State Government has approved a N10,000 monthly allowance for persons with disabilities.
State Commissioner of Information Youth Support and Culture Hon.Sagir Musa Ahmad disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the state executive council.
He said the council approved the number increase of the persons with disabilities benefiting from monthly allowance.
Ahmad explained that the council approved the increase of beneficiaries in each of the 27 local government areas from 150 to 200.
According to him “the Council approved a memo from the Ministry of Women Affairs for Physical Verification/Validation of People with Disability and the Establishment of a Database of Orphans, Orphanages, and Vulnerable Aged Populations. Monthly allowances for people with disabilities were increased from N7,000 to N10,000.”
DAILY POST reported that the state was unable to review the beneficiaries’ register for many years and many of the beneficiaries had died without replacement.
Chairman of the state chapter of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, JONAPWD, Hon Adamu Sha’aibu Jigawa-Tsada commended Governor Umar Namadi for his concern to improve the lives of persons with disabilities.
