The IREDE Foundation have called for partnership with the National Commission of Persons With Disabilities (NCPWD) to promote inclusive budgeting for inclusive education at the national level.
The call was made during the foundation’s advocacy visit to The Executive Secretary of NCPWD, Mr. James Lalu.
The Irede Foundation as part of their project being supported by Disability Rights Fund(DRF) on Wednesday, 8th of February paid an advocacy visit to the National Commission of Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) in Abuja.
The leader of the delegation, Crystal Chigbu, who is also the the Executive Director of the foundation in her remark said that the purpose of the visit is to introduce the ongoing project to the commission and establish partnership which includes technical support from the Commission.
Speaking further, she shared the milestones or the impact the foundation have made through the project that’s is why the continuity of the project is critical for children with disabilities.
Mr James David Lalu, Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Persons with Disabilities in his remark emphasized that education is paramount for all children and commended the team and charged them to do more.
Wuraola Kayode, the programs Lead of the foundation shared the project brief as well as the partnership support needed from the commission.
Mr. Lalu in his response also mentioned that the commission is working with the Ministry of Education to ensure that unity schools continue to open their doors to Children with disabilities.
He also encouraged the foundation, parents and caregivers of children with disabilities and the general public to report cases of discrimination to the commission. Anywhere rights of Children with disabilities are not upheld in accordance with Discrimination Against Persons with Disability( Prohibition) Act as well as other global frameworks, the commission will ensure that their rights are upheld..
He assured the foundation that the commission will provide the required support that will help to ensure that children with disabilities are not left behind!
The foundation closed out by presenting the 2021 situational analysis report on mainstreaming disability inclusion in the budgeting process for the implementation of inclusive education.
