The Executive Director, Potters Gallery Initiative, Donald Unanka, has called Federal government to expedite action on the implementation of the disability law by ensuring the active inclusion of persons with disabilities in the arts and creative industry.

He made this call on Monday during the opening ceremony of a three-day Abuja Arts Ability Festival, organized by Potters Gallery Initiative with support from the British Council and Bank of Industry to commemorate this year’s international day for persons with disabilities with theme: Leadership and Participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable COVID-19 World.

Mr.  Unanka said the festival was an innovative approach to use all genres of the art as a strong tool to tell the stories of people with disabilities in Nigeria.

He said the message of the theme for this year’s festival “Connect and Amplify New Voices” is key to disability art movement in Nigeria.

The event witnessed some live performances from persons with disabilities such as dance performance from the Deaf Can Dance Group, A blind professional saxophonist and Potters Gallery Dance Group and some art exhibition.

The event continues on Tuesday with some arts exhibition and some live performances from persons with disabilities showcasing art.
