“Good Character And Determination Will Propel Our Teeming Youths To Greater Heights” —ES, NCPWD, James Lalu

The Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Mr. James David Lalu has pronounced that individual character guided by determination will aid the future achievements of our youths in Nigeria.

Lalu made this pronouncement recently in Abuja, while addressing members of the Legislative Mentoring Initiatives, who came on an advocacy visit to the Commission.

The ES encouraged them to position themselves in taking over the leadership of the Country in various spheres in order to attain the nation of their dreams.

He seized the occasion to inform the delegation of the inherent abilities in Persons With Disabilities especially the young ones in the community.

He also mentioned various empowerment programmes initiated by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari and urged them to take full advantage of it.

The Executive Secretary further commended the Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila for the vision to raise the next generation of leaders through initiating the group.

Mr. James Lalu said that stakeholders in the country should ensure Persons with Disabilities are given the maximum opportunity to exercise their skills and knowledge in order to enhance productivity and development of Nigeria as a nation.

The ES, however, warned that Nigerians should refrain from any unruly marginalization and discrimination against Persons with Disabilities.

The Executive Secretary then warned that the Commission will not cease to prosecute defaulters of disability law as well as protecting the rights of all PWDs.

He, However, reiterated that the Commission’s primary purpose is to ensure that there are good transport system, quality health care delivery system and a better educational system for PWDs.

Furthermore, Lalu called on the group to be ambassadors of change by showing the leadership steps on how PWDs should be treated both at the States and Local government levels.

The Programme Manager and Spokesman of the team, Ms Chimdi Aneliaku, appreciated the ES for his warm reception and said that the organisation believes in inclusive governance with the hope of creating a new crop of legislators and Public sector leaders that will change the entire course of Persons with Disabilities in the country.

“The work is not complete if everybody is not carried along” she stated.

The Speaker, Legislative Parliament Initiative, Rt. Hon. Olise Abu Michael further in his address opined that Persons with Disabilities are intelligent and proactive in service delivery.

He, therefore, used the medium to call on Nigerians to embrace this clarion call.
