The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has summoned a meeting with Association of Airline Operators and aircraft handling companies to ensure with provisions of the Nigeria Disability Prohibition Act (2019) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja.
The meeting which took place on Tuesday in Abuja kicked off FAAN stating their commitment towards ensuring 100% compliance to the provisions of Discrimination Against Persons With Disabilities (Prohibition) Act (2018) which was the main and only agenda of the meeting.
Captain Rabiu Yadudu, Managing Director, FAAN instructed all the airline operators to immediately submit their procedural manual for Persons With Disabilities to FAAN so that it can be harmonized as one document.
The Centre for Ability, Rehabilitation, and Empowerment (CARE) team were exceptionally recognized at meeting and the medium was used to inform all the airline operators and aircraft handlers present at the meeting about CARE Service Desk and their services provides at the airport.
CARE also informed the house about the availability of a stair- climber aisle wheelchair and the addition of a new wheelchair scissors elevator that has just arrived.
The management of FAAN were very excited about the arrival of the wheelchair elevator and requested that it be installed and test run as soon as possible for early deployment.
The meeting ended with FAAN and AON expressing their appreciation to VOICE and CARE stating that are excitedly awaiting the deployment of the new equipment.
