The Executive Secretary National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Mr. James David Lalu has said that the Commission is indeed grateful to the Inspector General of Police Mr. Usman Baba Alkali for his unprecedented display of passion towards Persons with Disabilities in Nigeria.
In a Press Release signed by Mbanefo JohnMicheal I, the head of Media and Publicity, NCPWD, the ES said this recently in Abuja while addressing Newsmen on the state of Compliance and Enforcement of the (2018) Act prohibiting the discriminations of Persons with Disabilities.
While toasting the IGP on his 365 days in office, the ES stated that the IGP boosted his support for PWDs by collaborating with the Commission on the establishment of Police Desk offices in all Police Commands in order to respond to distress calls and reports of abuses from PWDs.
“At this juncture, I want to reiterate that those Desk offices will be tagged Disability -friendly Centers courtesy of the IGP” he said. Lalu further disclosed that the synergy between the Commission and the Nigeria Police has attracted international applause and has also shown the direction of the Commission’s vision as well as fulfilling its mandate.
“This collaboration has long been sought until the arrival of the new Sheriff who incidentally will be marking his One year in office in a few days”. He further described the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali as a passionate, humble gentleman who has proven to be a friend indeed to the entire community of PWDs.
The ES also informed that the legacies of the IGP will linger on even after he must have retired.
“We shall still be consulting him after he must have left the stage because of his residual influence in our community; on behalf of myself, the Commission and the entire community of Persons With disabilities, we felicitate with the IGP on the occasion of his one year in office.
