Dr. James David Lalu, the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons with Disabilities on Friday in Abuja, decorated 6 Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps members serving in the Commission as Disability Desk officers with their new ranks following their recent elevation by NSCDC.
While congratulating the Corps members, the ES opined that promotion to new ranks is usually demanding as it is an added responsibility,
“Having garnered experience both from your superiors and through capacity buildings, you are now expected to approach issues through a more complete and calculated angle” he said
The Executive Secretary reiterated that the 5 year transitory period granted by the Disability Act expired on the 16th of January, 2024 and as such, the Commission is waiting for the approval of the Presidency to commence enforcement.
He further informed that the Commission is committed to providing Training for the officers of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps in the 36 States of the Federation and the 774 local Councils in order to place them on the right path for the Enforcement of the discrimination Act.
Earlier in her address, the DCC Patience Andepu who is the Officer in charge of NSCDC Disability Desk office at the Commission charged the newly promoted officers to put their wealth of experience in use by contributing towards ameliorating the situations of Persons with disabilities in Nigeria.
She thanked the ES for running an open door policy and for making out time out of his busy schedule to attend to the officers. She pledged their unwavering loyalty to the office of the Executive Secretary.
