Disability Law: SoLife Urges Media on Accessibility and disability Friendly

Society For Life Changers And Good Parental Care SoLife have urged Media Practitioners in Osun and other states of the federation to be accessible and become Persons with Disability friendly.

This is as it revealed that the Disability Law includes benefits for the Persons with Disability, it advocated that Education should be given to the children category of persons with disability.

This was disclosed at a Press Conference by the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Society For Life Changers And Good Parental Care SoLife, Ambassador Aremu Stephen Akinyele who said that once the Disability bill is assented and passed into law, there will be restructuring of structures in favor of the disability clusters, hence the media becoming PWDs friendly.

Commending Osun Government under the leadership of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for its various programs, it called out to the government to Assent the bill into law, adding that once this is done, it will improve the standard of living of the persons with disability in the state.

At the Press Conference made in  collaboration with Osun Chapter of the Joint Association of Persons With Disability JONAPWD, Festus Fajemilo Foundation FFF and Community Advancement Initiative for Self Reliance CAI4SR, SoLife urged Osun government to write its name in gold by assenting the Disability bill into law, just as the federal government have done at its level.

The SoLife Chairman who was represented by the Program Director, Mrs Adeola Falana speaking on the disability bill said it addressed issues such as free health access to persons with disability in the primary and secondary health centers across the state.

On employment issue, she pointed out that the disability law assented at the federal level, and is expected to be domesticated at state level posited that five percent of employment slots must be given to persons with disability who applied for employment, she also urged the media to always be accessible to PWD and also makes use of their portfolio to address cases of violence faced by this vulnerable group.

Speaking further on education of persons with disability, she indicated that SoLife discovered that many children with disability are locked up in their houses by their parents/guardians with no access to education.

She added that Osun government has Schools for Special Needs, maintained that it is wrong for parents/caregivers to lock up their disable children, SoLife advocates that the children category of the persons with disability clusters be given access to education.

SoLife also maintained that the Disability bill when passed into law will improve the social inclusion of Perdons With Disability, give them access to Support services and also improve the right of PWDs.

The persons with Disability PWDs, Women, Children, and Orphans and Vulnerable Children OVC friendly organization, urged Osun government to intensify efforts into the Disability bill, pass it through the State House of Assembly, and  set up implementation framework to facilitate the implementation of the law.

SoLife added its voice with Joint Association of Persons With Disability JONAPWD, and other NGOs at the Press Conference, such as Festus Fajemilo Foundation FFF and Community Advancement Initiative for Self Reliance CAI4SR to aver that having the Disability Law in Osun will address multi-dimensional discrimination encountered by PWDs, improve rights, privileges and access of PWDs to services, and provide a clear and comprehensive legal protection and security for the PWDs in the state among others.
