Disability Advancement Initiative (DAI) seek housing allocation for persons with disabilities.
The group made this demand when they paid an advocacy visit to Federal Mortgage Bank in Abuja recently.
The Executive Director, Disability Advancement Initiative, Obinna Ekujereonye in his speech appealed for flexible loan from Federal Mortgage Bank to enable persons with disabilities to acquire befitting houses for themselves.
Obinna said that the visit is also to ascertain the compliance level of the bank in the implementation of disability act.
He went to stress the need for PWDs to own their houses especially in the face of economic downturn.
“A lot of persons with disabilities don’t have job and there is high cost of house rent, so even if it is CSR, we want you to come to our aid to have roof over our heads”
The Executive Director, Business Development and Portfolio Management, Kingsley Chukwuma in his response said that the bank doesn’t discriminate against PWDs.
He promised to put heads together with other members of the Executive to find what he can do for Persons With Disabilities.
He advised the group to get land allocated to to them, FMB will assess the land and if it is okay, loan will be processed by FMB to enable PWDs build.
