A Corps member, Jurdimma Douglas Damina has donated 40 wheelchairs to persons with disabilities in Daura Local Government Area of Katsina State as part of his personal Community Development Service to his host community,
The Corps member said he was motivated by the passion he to impact positively on the less privileged he will come across
Douglas disclosed that he was touched as he sees many of people with disabilities passing by his house where he stays along the township road in Daura on daily bases.
He further explained that he was particularly moved by one disabled old man who was always passing using a wheelchair made of wood He said that the wheelchair was not moving freely on its own but it has to be pushed using physical strength and that the son of the man pushes the wheelchair and each time they were passing with that struggle he felt pity and had compassion on them
Douglas said he never believed he can execute the project until he met with the NGO known as Beautiful Gate Handicapped People Center of Nigeria located in Jos plateau State who accepted to sponsor the project
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the State Coordinator NYSC katsina State, Hajiya Muhammad Aisha called on the host community to continue to encourage corps members serving in their domain to carry out more developmental community oriented projects in their area,noting that no corps member will carry away any project executed as it belongs to the community.
Aisha who was represented by the Assistant Director Planning and Research, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim commended the Corps member for the initiative.
The Emir of Daura, Alhaji (Dr ) Umar Faruk Umar was among the Dignitaries that grace the occasion.
