The Turkish Red Cross Society has trained 100 Nigerian Red Cross Volunteers on climate change and urged them to plant more trees to avoid the menance of desertification and environmental degredation.
The Branch secretary of the Nigerian Red Cross Gombe state branch, Murtala A Aliyu, disclosed in Gombe during Flagg-off of the 2021 tree planting program in Nasarawo quarters in Gombe to complement the training.
Murtala Aliyu, said that each volunteer of the Red Cross was urged to englitgeen at least 1000 people on the effect of the climate change.
He added that these were steps aimed at complementing the jewel environmental initiative, Gombe Goes Green under the Newmap was supported with tree seedlings.
Also speaking, Special Assistant to Governor Inuwa Yahaya on Security and Governmental Affairs, Yusuf Musa Danbayo, donated 200 economic and wind-breakers tree seedlings.
He called on the general public to embrace tree planting attitude in order to safeguard the environment.
Branch Secretary, pointed out that the pioneer training was conducted in three local government areas of the state Akko, Gombe and Yamaltu Deba.
In his separate remarks, the Village Head of Sabon Garin Nasarawo, Malam Bappah Yaya, commended the Red Cross for the support of planting of trees to address the effect of climate change.
Bappah, added that the job is not for the Red Cross alone but involves everyone, “let’s complement the effort by planting trees in our sorroundings.
Answering questions from Newmen, the Team lead of Red Cross and the Coordinator volunteer, gender and Youth development Fatima Ibrahim Nasir, said climate change is affecting every where by cutting down the tree by not replace it.
She called on public to be planting more trees while desist from unnecessary cutting down of trees for domestic purposes.
The campaign train moved to Liji in Yamaltu Deba and Kumo, in Akko local government areas for the sensitization, and awareness campaign on the importance of planting trees.
