The Transforming Church, Gwarinpa Abuja on Saturday 28th May 2022 included persons with disabilities in their 2022 Fashion exhibition known as CANA Fashion Show.
The Fashion exhibition which was provided opportunity for young Nigerians who are into fashion to showcase their products for possible patronage and also stand chance of winning a prize to upgrade their production.
This year’s edition included persons with disabilities in line with the practice of the church to be inclusive and in compliance to the implementation of Discrimination against Persons with disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018.
The lead pastor of the church, Revd Sam Oye believes that persons with disabilities should be given pride of place in the scheme of things and in his church, all persons with disabilities are welcome. He has once again demonstrated this by including persons with disabilities in CANA Fashion Show. The church is made accessible, some wheelchair users are proud members of the church.
TQM reports that at CANA Fashion Show, the runway was made wheelchair friendly and there were booths where other fashion materials like hairs, shoes, beads etc were showcased.
TQM also reports that the outfits the persons with disabilities worn while on runway were designed by persons with disabilities who are fashion designers.
TQM learnt that Dr. Irene Ojiugo Patrick-Ogbogu, the Executive Director, Disability Rights Advocacy Center(DRAC) who is also a member of the church assisted these fashion designers with disabilities financially to make the outfits they displayed, paid the entry fees for some of them and assisted some with transport fare, just to ensure that they participate effectively at the show.
