Nigeria’s Bose Omolayo has added another medal to her impressive Paralympic legacy, claiming a silver in the women’s up to 79kg Para Powerlifting event at the ongoing Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Omolayo’s lift of 145kg earned her a place on the podium, marking her third consecutive Paralympic medal after securing gold in both Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.
Despite suffering an injury to her right arm during her first lift, Omolayo displayed immense grit and determination, battling through the pain to attempt her third lift. Although she registered two no-lifts after her injury, her initial performance was enough to clinch the silver for Team Nigeria.
Her achievement not only secured Nigeria’s third medal on Saturday but also brought the country’s overall medal tally at the Paris Games to six.
Omolayo’s perseverance and strength in the face of adversity have inspired many, cementing her status as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated Paralympic athletes. The Nigerian delegation continues to shine at the Paralympics, with hopes high for more podium finishes in the coming days.
