In a move toward a more inclusive educational landscape, Dr. Jamila Dahiru, the Bauchi State Commissioner of Education, has announced a strategic plan to implement the inclusive education system across all schools in the state. Speaking to journalists at the Government House, Dr. Dahiru emphasized that this initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s commitment to eliminating discrimination in the education sector.
The Commissioner highlighted significant progress in the comprehensive renovation of the Special Education Center in Yelwa, a pivotal step in accommodating the unique needs of students with disabilities. The State Executive Council has not only acknowledged these advancements but has also approved the provision of essential tools and facilities to ensure effective learning for students with special needs in pursuit of a truly inclusive education environment.
Addressing concerns about fees, Dr. Jamila Dahiru clarified that while her ministry is not revenue-driven, it levies nominal amounts for Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) fees and certain examinations. This approach aims to strike a balance between financial sustainability and ensuring accessibility for all students, irrespective of their economic backgrounds.
The Commissioner reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to providing basic education for every child in the state, regardless of physical challenges. This inclusive approach represents a significant stride toward creating an educational ecosystem that caters to diverse learning needs.
Touching on the AGILE project, Dr. Dahiru confirmed the completion of all tasks expected by the State Government, with the final workplan submitted to the World Bank for approval. The pending paperwork, now in the hands of the State Ministry of Finance, is the last step before the Project Office can access the allocated funds.
Despite initial community misconceptions, Dr. Jamila Dahiru highlighted successful resolution through dedicated efforts in advocacy, education, and enlightenment by the Project Implementation Unit. This not only paves the way for the AGILE project’s success but also sets a precedent for collaboration and understanding in future initiatives.
Bauchi State’s commitment to inclusive education is not just a policy; it’s a transformative journey toward an educational system that leaves no child behind, embracing diversity and fostering an environment where every student can thrive.
