The traditional leader and Bargan of Gombe, Hon. Abubakar Sadeeq Gidado, has made a public appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to appoint veteran journalist Abdul’aziz Abdul’aziz as the next Presidential Spokesperson. The call comes in the wake of Ajuri Ngelale’s resignation from the prestigious position.
Abdul’aziz Abdul’aziz, a distinguished journalist born and raised in Kano, has built a reputable career in the Nigerian media industry. His journey began in 2007, after earning a degree in Kano, where he started as a creative writer and contributor to local newspapers. Over the years, Abdul’aziz has risen through the ranks, assuming key roles in prominent media houses across the country. Most recently, he served as the Deputy General Editor at Daily Trust, one of Nigeria’s leading newspapers.
Abdul’aziz’s career has been marked by participation in prestigious workshops and programs, including the British Council’s writing workshop led by award-winning author Bernadine Evaristo and the Farafina Trust/Chimamanda Adichie creative writing workshop in 2012. His contributions to journalism and creative writing have earned him widespread recognition, with his poems featured in various anthologies and his work receiving several nominations and awards.
In his appeal, Bargan Gombe commended Abdul’aziz’s extensive experience in journalism and media, stating that his deep understanding of communication strategies, media dynamics, and public relations makes him the perfect candidate to serve as the president’s official spokesperson. According to the traditional leader, Abdul’aziz has spent more than a decade honing his skills, not only in journalism but in effective communication that resonates with both traditional and digital audiences.
“Abdul’aziz has consistently demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to ethical journalism,” Gombe stated, adding that these qualities are crucial in rebuilding and maintaining public trust in government communications. He emphasized that Abdul’aziz’s ability to navigate both the fast-evolving world of digital media and traditional news outlets would provide the presidency with a spokesperson capable of addressing the diverse communication needs of the Nigerian public.
As the media landscape continues to shift and public scrutiny of government actions grows more intense, Bargan Gombe argued that Abdul’aziz’s appointment would represent a step toward transparency and credibility in the office of the presidential spokesperson. “His reputation for honest and clear communication makes him a perfect successor to Ajuri Ngelale, ensuring the continuity of excellence in the administration’s communication efforts,” Gombe noted.
With Abdul’aziz’s reputation and extensive skill set, many are hopeful that President Tinubu will give serious consideration to this recommendation, further solidifying his administration’s commitment to strong, clear, and effective communication with the Nigerian public.
