Following the suspension of Dr. Betta Edu, the embattled Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, and her subsequent interrogation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim seized the opportunity to advocate for a new direction in leadership.
In an open letter titled, “An Open Letter to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on the Urgent Need to Appoint A True Humanitarian to Head the Humanitarian Affairs Ministry,” Ibrahim urged President Tinubu to appoint renowned philanthropist, Dr. Halimat Adenike Tejuosho, as the new Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
In his letter, Ibrahim highlighted the detrimental impact of the corruption scandal involving Dr. Betta Edu, emphasizing the need for decisive action to restore public trust and alleviate the suffering of Nigerians, particularly the 37 million Persons with Disabilities in the country. He commended President Tinubu for his swift response to the situation but urged further measures to ensure accountability and transparency within the ministry.
Acknowledging President Tinubu’s leadership in various facets of governance, including the fight against corruption, economic development, and social welfare, Ibrahim emphasized the importance of appointing a competent and trustworthy individual to lead the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. He highlighted Dr. Halimat Adenike Tejuosho as a prime candidate for the position, citing her exemplary humanitarian record and unwavering commitment to serving the less privileged.
Ibrahim appealed to President Tinubu to consider the will of the people and appoint Dr. Halimat Adenike Tejuosho, or someone with similar credentials, to spearhead the ministry. He expressed confidence that such a decision would align with the renewed hope agenda of President Tinubu’s administration, fostering unity, peace, progress, and prosperity across Nigeria.
In addition to his advocacy efforts, Ibrahim announced plans to publish a book detailing President Tinubu’s achievements in office and his steadfast commitment to combating corruption. Through his actions and initiatives, Ibrahim aims to contribute to the ongoing discourse on good governance and accountability in Nigeria.
As the nation awaits President Tinubu’s response to Ibrahim’s proposal, the call for a new Minister of Humanitarian Affairs continues to garner attention, with many hopeful for positive change and effective leadership in addressing the country’s humanitarian challenges.
