Anambra Guber 2025: Persons With Disabilities Endorse Labour Party’s George Moghalu, Pledge 5,000-Vote Strong Support

By Agbo Christian Obiora

Awka, Anambra State – In a major boost to his governorship ambition, the Labour Party’s candidate, Chief George Moghalu, has received a resounding endorsement from the Alliance of Disabled People (ADP) in Anambra State ahead of the November 8, 2025 election.

During a solidarity visit to Moghalu’s campaign office at the Udoka Housing Estate in Awka, the capital city, the umbrella body for persons with disabilities threw its full weight behind his candidacy, declaring him the most inclusive and disability-friendly among the 17 aspirants across various political parties.

The endorsement, which comes from a bloc of approximately 5,000 members, follows a state-wide consultative meeting held by the ADP on June 12. The group said their decision was based on a thorough assessment of candidates, during which Moghalu stood out for his “compassion, track record, and longstanding solidarity with the disability community.”

“You Stood by Us, Now We Stand by You” — ADP

Speaking at the endorsement rally, Comrade Mike Nwakakwa, ADP Coordinator, and Hon. Joseph Okafor, the group’s secretary, stated that their support for Moghalu is not just symbolic, but strategic and deeply personal.

“Dr. Moghalu has consistently shown he understands our needs—not with pity, but with policy. He has earned our trust through his words and actions. This is why we are standing by him,” Nwakakwa said.

He added that ADP members across Anambra’s 21 local government areas would be deployed to mobilise support at the grassroots level to ensure victory at the polls.

“We Are Partners in This Journey” — Moghalu

In his response, an elated Chief George Moghalu welcomed the endorsement, describing the ADP as “courageous allies” in his mission to bring inclusive governance to Anambra State.

“You may be physically challenged, but you are not challenged in spirit,” Moghalu said. “We are partners in this journey, and I am committed to walking this path with you.”

Moghalu further revealed plans to embed persons with disabilities into the heart of his campaign structure, promising that some would take on key roles in grassroots mobilisation and community engagement.

He also rolled out a comprehensive disability inclusion agenda, pledging to:

  • Establish a Special Disability Trust Fund
  • Ensure full accessibility in public infrastructure
  • Provide skill acquisition and empowerment programmes tailored for PWDs
  • Advocate for inclusive education and accessible healthcare

“This endorsement will not be hidden. I am proud to associate with you. Together, we will make Anambra a model of inclusive development,” he declared.

ADP Cites Policy, Accessibility, and Trust as Key Reasons

In an exclusive chat with Legit.ng, Comrade Nwakakwa shed more light on why the Alliance chose Moghalu over 16 other aspirants.

“Our support is grounded in lived experience and the clarity of Moghalu’s vision,” he said. “His campaign strategy shows a genuine intention to integrate persons with disabilities into the mainstream of governance.”

He pointed out that Moghalu’s emphasis on economic empowerment, accessibility, and inclusive infrastructure resonates strongly with the community.

“His promise to enhance job creation and open up opportunities for PWDs is exactly what we’ve been waiting for,” Nwakakwa added.

He also cited Moghalu’s demonstrated willingness to engage marginalised communities, listen to their challenges, and provide workable solutions as a major trust-building factor.

Winning Strategy: Engage, Mobilise, Deliver

Looking ahead, Nwakakwa advised the Labour Party candidate to adopt a multifaceted strategy to win the election.

“He must strengthen engagement with local communities, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and influential political figures. Town hall meetings are critical to listening to the people’s needs.”

He encouraged Moghalu to maintain a visible presence across all 326 wards in the state and focus his campaign messaging on education, healthcare, infrastructure, and security—key issues that matter to the average Anambra voter.

Nwakakwa also recommended forming alliances with credible political stakeholders and interest groups whose values align with Moghalu’s vision of people-focused governance.

“This campaign must be about the people. It must be about solutions, accessibility, and inclusion,” he concluded.

Momentum Builds for Moghalu

As campaign activities heat up ahead of the November 8 polls, this endorsement from a strong and organised bloc such as the Alliance of Disabled People is a significant political win for Moghalu.

Observers believe that beyond the numbers, this show of support positions him as a candidate who listens, includes, and delivers—values that many voters are craving in the next governor of Anambra State.

If Moghalu can maintain this momentum and turn promises into practical action, he may well be on the path to securing the keys to Agu Awka come November.
