The Association of Lawyers with Disabilities in Nigeria (ALDIN) has promptly congratulated the disability community of Edo State and indeed Nigeria over the passing into law of the Edo State Disability Bill.
In a statement signed by Yusuf Iyodo Director Media and Publicity, ALDIN affirmed that the enactments of disability law across the states of Nigeria is in tandem with the principle of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition)Act, and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
ALDIN reiterated that, it is only in this light that the State can redress the obvious and obnoxious inequalities, inequities, injustice and marginalisation that exist against Persons with Disabilities in Nigeria.
ALDIN is particularly proud that just recently it took the campaign and advocacy for passing of Disability Law to all stakeholders in Edo State, and along with other stakeholders, demanded for immediate passage of the law.
ALDIN found it gratifying that its noble efforts in this regard yielded great result.
The ALDIN also recognised and appreciated The Leprosy Mission, Nigeria for financially supporting ALDIN to undertake the noble and impactful advocacy.
Special thanks also to the many OPDs and stakeholders who had joined in the advocacy and lobbying efforts.
The ALDIN, obviously excited over the profound milestone, reiterates it’s commitment to using its position, experience and vast legal resources to bring about transformation of the legal and social space of the country.
