In a noteworthy display of commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunities, Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has earned commendation from the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa, for his recent decision to employ 15 persons with disabilities (PWDs).
The accolades came in a statement issued by the SSA’s Director of Media and Communications, Lanre Oloyede, on Saturday, highlighting Governor Zulum’s unwavering dedication to fostering a society where everyone can contribute meaningfully.
Hon. Abba Isa underscored the significance of Governor Zulum’s actions, emphasizing that the employment of PWDs with educational qualifications represents a significant step towards inclusivity and empowerment. He applauded Governor Zulum for going beyond charity and demonstrating a genuine commitment to creating an environment where every citizen, regardless of ability, can thrive.
According to the Senior Special Assistant, Governor Zulum’s actions are not only in line with the Discrimination Against Persons With Disabilities (Prohibition Act) but also resonate with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s focus on inclusion. Hon. Abba Isa referenced a previous meeting with Governor Zulum, where he urged the employment of PWDs in compliance with the National Disability Law, highlighting the fulfillment of that promise as a testament to Governor Zulum’s leadership and compassion.
“The last time I visited the state with the wife of the president to launch the Renewed Hope Initiative Women Agricultural Support Program focusing on support for women in agriculture and persons with disabilities in the North-East geo-political zone held in Maiduguri, Borno State, I pleaded with the governor to consider employing PWDs in compliance with the National Disability Law, and he promised me to do so. This is a promise kept,” remarked Hon. Abba Isa.
He further lauded Governor Zulum’s proactive approach to inclusivity and empowerment, citing it as a model for other governors to emulate. Hon. Abba Isa concluded by commending Governor Zulum’s leadership in promoting inclusivity and empowering PWDs, emphasizing that his actions pave the way for a more just and equitable society, urging other leaders to follow suit.
Governor Zulum’s decision to prioritize the employment of PWDs not only exemplifies true leadership but also sets a commendable example for his counterparts across the nation, signaling a significant stride towards a more inclusive and equitable society in Borno State and beyond.
