₦1 Billion Ability Talent Fund to Support Talent Development and Post-Show Opportunities for Participants
The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has taken a major step towards transforming the narrative around disability in Nigeria with the inauguration of six strategic sub-committees for the PWDs Got Talent Reality TV Show 2026.
The inauguration ceremony, held on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at the Commission’s Conference Hall in Abuja, was presided over by the Executive Secretary of the NCPWD, Hon. Ayuba Burki Gufwan.
The groundbreaking initiative is being implemented in partnership with the Discovering Abilities in Disabilities Initiative (DADI) and is designed to provide a national platform for persons with disabilities to showcase their talents, develop their potential and gain greater visibility in the entertainment industry.
From Sympathy to Talent and Empowerment
Represented at the event by the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr. Aliyu Agwai, the Executive Secretary described the initiative as a historic development in Nigeria’s disability inclusion agenda.
According to him, the reality show represents a deliberate effort to shift public perception of persons with disabilities from sympathy and charity to ability, talent and empowerment.
“Some time ago, we conceived an idea—to change the narrative from sympathy to ability, from charity to talent and empowerment. That idea has today become PWDs Got Talent Reality TV Show 2026,” he stated.
The show, which carries the theme “Discovering Abilities in Disabilities,” is expected to discover, nurture and promote talented persons with disabilities while positioning them for greater opportunities on a national and international stage.
DADI: Creating Opportunities for Hidden Talents
The Founder of the Discovering Abilities in Disabilities Initiative, Mr. Steve Rodstick Ezeh, reaffirmed his commitment to creating platforms where persons with disabilities can demonstrate their abilities and receive the recognition they deserve.
He emphasized that persons with disabilities possess exceptional talents but are often denied opportunities to display their skills and compete on equal terms.
The initiative, he explained, seeks to change that reality by creating a world-class, inclusive talent show capable of producing stars and opening new doors for participants.
Six Committees to Drive the Project
To ensure the effective planning and delivery of the reality show, the NCPWD inaugurated six sub-committees with specific responsibilities:
1. Contact and Mobilization Committee
The committee will coordinate grassroots mobilization across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory through JONAPWD, disability clusters, non-governmental organisations and community leaders.
2. Proposal and Partnership Committee
This committee will oversee proposal development, sponsorship mobilisation and engagement with government institutions, corporate organisations and development partners.
3. Media and Publicity Committee
It will manage media relations, press engagements, television and radio promotions, online campaigns and public awareness activities surrounding the show.
4. Branding and Marketing Committee
The committee will focus on the development of the show’s brand identity, merchandise, advertising strategies and commercial positioning.
5. Logistics, Protocol and Entertainment Committee
Its responsibilities will include venue arrangements, security, welfare, protocol, guest and celebrity management, as well as overall event production.
6. Inclusion and Compliance Committee
The committee will ensure that the show meets accessibility and inclusion standards, including the provision of sign language interpretation, audio description and disability-sensitive content.
₦1 Billion Ability Talent Fund Announced
A major highlight of the initiative is the ₦1 billion Ability Talent Fund, which is designed to reward talent, promote enterprise development and support the long-term career growth of participants after the reality show.
The fund is expected to contribute to the sustainability of the project by ensuring that the opportunities created for contestants extend beyond the television programme.
Speaking on the broader vision of the initiative, Gufwan stated:
“This assignment is not just about a reality show. It is about creating role models, changing mindsets, and giving over 35 million Nigerians with disabilities a platform to show the world that there is ability in disability.”
He added that ambitious projects require strong institutional structures, stressing that the six sub-committees were constituted to ensure the smooth and successful implementation of the programme.

The ceremony reached its peak with the formal inauguration of the members of the six sub-committees.
Declaring the committees inaugurated, the Executive Secretary said:
“By the powers conferred on me as the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, I hereby inaugurate the Sub-Committees for the PWDs Got Talent Reality TV Show 2026. Let us go and make history together.”
In his closing remarks, the Director of the Social Integration Department, Mr. Lawrence Idemudia, commended DADI for its persistent efforts to create opportunities for persons with disabilities.
He also reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to ensuring the success of the project.
Call for Support and Partnership
The NCPWD called on government agencies, corporate organisations, development partners, the media and members of the public to support the initiative and contribute to its success.
As preparations begin, the PWDs Got Talent Reality TV Show 2026 is expected to generate conversations around disability inclusion, representation, creativity and equal opportunities.
Beyond the excitement of reality television, the success of the project will ultimately depend on whether it creates lasting opportunities for participants and helps dismantle the barriers that have historically prevented many persons with disabilities from reaching their full potential.
PWDs Got Talent 2026 is not just about discovering talent—it is about changing narratives, challenging stereotypes and proving that disability should never be a barrier to greatness.
