ABUJA — The Advocacy for Women with Disabilities Initiative (AWWDI) has entered into a new partnership with the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Nigeria to strengthen the economic independence and livelihood opportunities of women and girls with disabilities.
The partnership was formalised with the signing of a Grant Agreement by Mrs. Patience Ogolo Dickson, Executive Director of AWWDI, on behalf of the organisation’s Board and Management.
The grant is expected to support AWWDI’s efforts to equip women and girls with disabilities with basic income-generation skills, enabling beneficiaries to develop sustainable livelihoods, improve their economic independence and participate more meaningfully in their communities.
From Inclusion to Economic Independence
For AWWDI, the partnership represents more than financial support. It is an opportunity to address one of the persistent challenges confronting women and girls with disabilities: limited access to economic opportunities.
Women with disabilities often face multiple barriers to education, employment, entrepreneurship, skills development and access to financial resources. These barriers can limit their ability to earn income and make independent economic decisions.
Through the new intervention, AWWDI aims to help bridge this gap by providing practical skills that can translate into income-generating opportunities.
Creating Opportunities to Earn, Thrive and Lead
The initiative is designed to place economic empowerment at the centre of disability inclusion, recognising that meaningful inclusion must extend beyond participation to include the ability to earn, build livelihoods and exercise greater economic independence.
With appropriate skills and opportunities, women and girls with disabilities can become entrepreneurs, employees, community leaders and contributors to local economic development.
The partnership between AWWDI and the German Embassy therefore signals a shared commitment to creating pathways through which women and girls with disabilities can participate more fully in society.

Speaking on the significance of the partnership, AWWDI described the grant as an important step towards creating opportunities for women and girls with disabilities to earn, thrive and lead with dignity.
