Gombe State Governor Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, has commended the Nigeria Military for their proactive measures towards tackling security challenges in the state.
The Governor made the commendation during the annual West African Sport Activities WASA which took place at the 301 Artillery General Support Barracks, Gombe.
Represented by the Commissioner Ministry of Internal security and Ethical orientation, Adamu Dishi Kupto,
According to him, Soldiers have performed wonderfully well in fighting the insurgency that bedeviled the Northern part of the Country for the past 11 years.
He added that WASA was first initiated during the colonial era where it showcases the cultural heritage hence creating avenue to civilian friends to interact with the soldiers freely.
While speaking,the General Officer Commanding 3 Division Major-Generals I.S Ali, who was represented by the Brigadier K.A Kazir, wished the 301 artillery success for hosting the 2021 WASA which is taking place in 2022 due to some reason, pointing out that the activities will give a chance to the civilian friends and socialized with soldiers.
Major General Ali, also said the programme was introduced after the independence, from the colonial masters and later adopted annually.
According to him, Nigeria Army collaborated with other security agencies in showcasing the activities to socialize.
He commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya for the continued support in the state.
He further commended the officers and men for their cooperation towards the success of the programme.
The acting Commander 301 Major K Bashir, explained that the WASA was introduced a long time ago since during the era of West African Frontier force that soldiers interact and relax together with their civilian friends.
Major Bashir, appreciated the efforts of the soldiers in fighting the insecurity in the country more especially the Boko Haram, Kidnapping, and the rest.
The highlight of the programme was entertainment by the Traditional dancers, cultural troops, singers, thugs of war between the Governor’s team and the Commander’s team which at the end the Governor’s team won.
