TQM report,
The Access Bank Plc sponsored Centre for Youth Studies’ 1-day life skills training programme in collaboration with Plateau State Disability Rights Commission was designed to equip persons with disabilities with coping skills for sustainable lifestyles.
The programme for twenty (20) persons with disabilities in Plateau State held on September 30, 2021 at Plateau State Community and Social Development Agency (PSDA), Jos. It had in attendance nine (9) females and eleven (11) males from the Blind, Deaf, Persons with physical Disabilities and those with Albinism; as well as secondary school students from the School for the Deaf, and Blind students from Nakam Memorial Secondary School, Panyam.
The training methodology was largely participatory, where participants added value to the break-out sessions through contributing their experiences, ideas and knowledge as they examined life skills issues: self-love, character development, having a good self-image, impacting the world positively, navigating the public space, thinking outside the box of disability, mental health issues and so much more.
The launch of the Hausa version of the FTS CLUB Handbook (training manual) came up during the programme and was anchored by Mr. Ezekiel Shuwet the book translator. He was assisted by the Chairman of the Plateau State Disability Rights Commission, Ms. Kyennan Mizim and other members of the Commission, and stakeholders from other Civil Society organisations.
The Life Skill Training programme provided an avenue for the cross fertilization of ideas to enhance the capacity of persons with disabilities in schools, and heads of disability clusters.
The outcome obtained through feedback from participants at the end of the training showed an appreciable increase in knowledge, skills and change in attitude.
This inaugural project by the Plateau State Disability Rights Commission engendered by its collaboration with Centre for Youth Studies and the support of Access Bank Plc, has positioned the Commission to add value to the lives of persons with disabilities in Plateau State, creating an enabling environment to ensure that no person with disability in the State would be “left behind”
