ES, NCPWD, James Lalu says Commission’s Partnership with DRAC is Unwavering

The Executive Secretary National Commission for Persons With Disabilities, Mr. James David Lalu gave a reassurance of the Commission’s continuous collaboration with the Disability Rights Advocacy Center (DRAC) while receiving the organization in his office today 22nd October, 2021.

In a press statement signed by Mbanefo JohnMicheal I, the head, media and publicity, NCPWD, the ES expressed gratitude to DRAC for staying committed to the course of disabled persons as well as the Commission. He specially thanked the Executive Director for making considerable inputs in the formation of the 2018 Act of establishment.

Lalu said the task of implementing the law is heavy but can only be surmounted with the collective participation of other disability agencies.

He further hinted on the planned Summit to mark the International day for Disability slated for December 3rd, 2021. He also mentioned that the period will witness the launch of the Commission’s Policy documents such as the National certificate of disability and the recently formulated curriculum for disability studies in Higher institutions of learning.

According to him, the event will be elaborate to include presentations of special Awards to Governors who have signed the disability rights law at the state level.

The ES underpinned that the primary target of the programme is to get government officials to understand their roles and responsibilities in the implementation process.

“There will be delegates from the 36 States headed by Chief Executives of MDAs”, he reiterated.

In a Swift reaction, the Executive Director, DRAC, Dr. Irene Patrick Ogbogu commended the ES for effecting structural changes at the Commission’s access points in compliance with Accessibility requirements in public buildings.

She further congratulated the ES once more on his appointment and described him as a very passionate personality on disability issues even before his appointment.

Irene appreciated the Commission’s helmsman for his immense contributions to the success in putting the book together. She thanked him for providing the Foreword and the Guidance note for the publication.

Earlier in his address, David Lalu promised to give full support to mass produce the book when the ISBN is finally issued.
