No fewer than 5,000 vulnerable citizens, including persons with disabilities and the aged, have benefited the from Federal Government poverty alleviation programme tagged National Social Investment Programme (NSIP).
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, said this on Tuesday, adding that the initiative is part of moves to alleviate poverty among the people of the state.
Farouq, who was represented by an official of the ministry, Dr Nasir Saani Gwaso, disbursed 20,000 to each of the beneficiaries.
She said the Federal Government was paying more attention to the plight of the poor and vulnerable across the country.
Gwaso said 15,908 households in the state are receiving monthly cash transfer of N5,000 under the scheme.
He said, “Over 12 million households have benefitted from NSIP interventions in the last 5 years. Osun State has 18,731 N-Power beneficiaries under Batch C1; 15,908 households receiving monthly cash transfer of N5,000.00; and 95,983 Primary 1-3 pupils receiving meals prepared by 1,940 cooks all in Osun State.”
