FG calls for domestication of disability act in every state

The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development has urged state Directors in charge of Persons with Disabilities across the country to domesticate the Law Against Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities, PWDs in order to provide effective service delivery.

The Ministry’s permanent Secretary, Nasiru Gwarzo disclosed this in Abuja at the Annual Conference of Directors responsible for the Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities in Nigeria.

Persons with Disabilities are often times vulnerable and susceptible to factors such as Societal Discrimination as well as environmental barriers which infringe on their rights and access to essential services.

In 2019 , President Muhammudu Buhari signed into law the Discrimination Against persons with Disability Prohibition Act , which provides for the full integration of persons with Disabilities into the society and promotes their Rights to Equal opportunities.

At an Annual Conference for Directors Responsible for the Rehabilitation of persons with Disabilities in Nigeria, held in Abuja, stakeholders strongly emphasised the need to domesticate the Act in every state for effective Service Delivery to all persons with Disability.

The Conference featured current and emerging issues affecting the survival and care of persons with disabilities and strives to chart a way forward to enable effective service Delivery to improve their quality of life.

The Humanitarian Ministry assured that it will continue with its conscious efforts towards addressing issues that relate to persons with Disabilities in Nigeria for overall National Development.
